Make it hard for someone to lie to you

12 April 2023

Be tactful in the way you get information out of someone.

Let's say a dealbreaker for you when it comes to dating is someone who does hard drugs like Cocaine. Now on your first call with a Bumble prospect, if you phrased your question as "Please tell me you don't do drugs, I can't stand drugs!" - you are unlikely to receive a truthful answer from someone who does hard drugs.

Because you've made it clear what it is that you don't want to hear, the person at the other end of the line is going to lie to you in order to not ruin their chances of dating you.

Instead, you'd want to phrase your question as "So, have you tried coke? How does it make you feel? I've never tried it before" in an eager and cheerful tone. You'd be much more likely to get them to be honest with you.
